Remove directory from web interface. #225

Closed cirosantilli closed 3 years ago

cirosantilli commented 10 years ago

Edit: done 6 years later: https://github.com/isaacs/github/issues/225#issuecomment-760402810 | https://github.blog/changelog/2021-01-11-delete-directory-from-the-web/

It is currently possible to remove individual files from the web interface, but not entire directories at once.

Proposed UI implementation: add a delete button on the line of each directory on the tree view.

Extension 1: add such buttons for the files for greater uniformity and convenience (no need to click on the file first to delete it).

Extension 2: allow to delete any combination of files. Add select checkboxes next to each filename on the tree view and a delete button.

GitLab: http://feedback.gitlab.com/forums/176466-general/suggestions/5590176-remove-directory-via-git-rm-rf-from-web-interface

Goal: allow people to use GitHub without installing Git or anything else locally.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's on the our internal Feature Request List for consideration.

Find it odd that this doesn't exist. Big +1

This. I always have to delete every file individually to get rid of a directory.

jaames commented 9 years ago

I only just found that this isn't possible currently. Another +1

@jdennes, why doesn't @GitHub open source this list so that users can vote on what actually has to be implemented next? Everyone reading this: Please make sure to sign the dear GitHub petition!

Hah, been searching this since a few hours of using IntelliJ/Github as a system directory got added to Github. Good to know it is not possible the easy way at the moment and I am super close to just removing the project altogether and rebuild.

@keetron, this Issue listed here is about removing directories via the GitHub web interface. If you use a GIT client like my beloved SmartGit, everything is possible. No need to remove your whole project.

@GitHub, how about replying here like you did at the dear Github petition? All those +1 are ticking me off. Action is better than talking. Please code it!

@isaacs, are you collecting +1s or ":+1:" here? This Issue begins to really annoy me!
