Grid scaling and updating issue #147

In map view, the grid isn’t scaling when zooming in and out and has trouble updating at times.

I've also had issues where some hexagons are translucent, making the globe seem see-through

I tried to reproduce the grid updating issue this morning, and all seemed to be working properly as I scaled in and out (it took a reasonable amount of time to refresh the grid).

Was this in Chrome or Safari or another browser? It's a known issue that the Map doesn't work well in Safari.

I'm trying to reproduce on Chrome on Mac with a trackpad and I can't get zoom to work at all.

The zoom controls in both Chrome and Safari on a Mac with a Trackpad are pretty much unusable.

Interestingly, zoom seems to work when I'm zoomed out completely (i.e. after using the "Visit Global" button). But if I'm zoomed into a spot like Moorea or Patagonia I can't get it to work.

When I tried to reproduce the grid updating issue this week, it was in Safari using a mouse (so I guess that is a good sign for Map functionality in Safari).

I just tried zooming using trackpad in Safari without issue; maybe these trackpad challenges speak to the possible value of the proposed feature in #159, though!
