I'll do the updates for human occupation site and lab environment. I edited lab env to 'Laboratory or curatorial environment' since it doesn't denote being both. Contextual unit is under discussion. Question is how to differentiate 'contextual unit' from 'sampled feature'.
version updated to 20210702; change to date stamp versioning; use '.n' suffix for multiple updates on one date.
Thank you Steve. See https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hIfDqHPKpC4dhFecT3NL3Yk0Nm7jxutA_KF_ZDhJbCo/edit?usp=sharing on how the proposed 'context unit' is used in the mapping.
We could replace all 'context unit' to 'site of past human activities', but the concern was almost all sampledFeature of Open Context samples would be 'site of ...' and people felt that was too general.
In the context of the global ‘iSamples’ central index , I don’t think it’s a problem If most (all) Open context items have ‘context’ (sampled feature) = ‘Site of past human activities’ The critical problem is has to extend the metadata schema systematically to include more granular categorization specific to particular domains. See GitHub issue #42 https://github.com/isamplesorg/metadata/issues/42 . This will require moving from basic to the full metadata schema…. Are we ready?
In SampledFeature (https://github.com/isamplesorg/metadata/blob/7644fdfa1f44008fd1bd828669b266bdf6d7187d/vocabulary/iSample-SampledFeature.ttl), can you
(1) rename "historic human occupation site" to "site of past human activities". (2) add new term "contextual unit" to cover various areas excavated in a site. This is a catch-all term for finer-grained, more specific context terms that sub-divides sites. We can discuss this request more if needed. (3) rename 'laboratory environment" to "laboratory and curatorial environment".
