We want to make it easier for people to log in using more widely recognised methods by utlising technologies like Sign in with Google/Facebook/Microsoft or Github accounts. This will allow portal users to log in with a single click/button press. Note that in onCourse it is possible to have two users with different names and the same email address. This change would require that email on its own is unique.

This could also allow non-onCourse users create an account, with a view towards using newer features like CPD tracking, a certificate/qualification wallet, USI storage and targeted banner ads.

Note that in the existing portal, users are asked which college they want to log into if they have an account at more than one. In this new plan they would see all their data merged without needing to do this.

Hi James, Some students still have issues logging into Skills OnCourse. It would be good if there was an easier way to access this. Regards, Yasmin

Yasmin, what kind of problems do they have? Is it just confusion about what actions to take or something else? If they have email addresses forwarding to another email (eg. info@ forwards to jane@) then they may still have difficultly understanding which email to use for login.

I'm actually not sure why they weren't able to access it but it happened when I sent them the link for SkillsOncourse. https://www.skillsoncourse.com.au/portal/login

I will ask some further questions next time to see if this happens.

We've had a lot of students and tutors reporting issues with opening skillsoncourse pages. I actually have the exact same issue on my computer, when I click on any skillsoncourse link I get an empty page with only the skillsoncourse logo on the top.

Explaining to students to clear their cache or open the link in incognito/private browser to fix the issue can be sometimes quite challenging. It will be great if that can be fixed. SkillsonCourse

For any issues with the existing portal, please open a ticket in our squish helpdesk and we will look at it. This ticket is for discussion of new ways to log into the portal in our rewrite.

I'm very on board with this concept, but just flagging that unique e-mails would great some challenges for us with younger students who are unlikely to have their own e-mail and instead have a parent e-mail address on file, which would clash with the parent record. Similarly, siblings might also have the same address, which again is usually the parents.
