Longtail video Needs to be Discussed #28

Closed DonRichards closed 6 years ago

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

In the Notes:

wget http://www.longtailvideo.com/download/jwplayer-3359.zip && unzip -o jwplayer-3359.zip && rm -rf jwplayer-3359.zip

NOTE: link no longer available. You can sign up to obtain this but licensing requirements are in question. Needs to be discussed.

Should we keep this? Find an alternative?

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

https://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/jw_player-7.x-1.x-dev.zip

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

Good find! You ok with me replacing that section with the link?

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

Sure! Sounds good. I'm running the "hopefully" last test now for this. Appreciate the quick responses.

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

Did you actually get that link working in Islandora? It seems to be a Drupal project jw_player https://www.drupal.org/project/jw_player which actually still requires the jwplayer library which you have to go to longtail for.

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

How about this one? https://videos.cdn.mozilla.net/uploads/air_mozilla/players/jwplayer6/jwplayer-3359.zip

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

To be clear this might not be a good one.

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

Mozilla.net is not Mozilla

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

There's a a mismatch of single and double quotes on the echo for "Add a mysql backup script:"

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

Did we want to point at a link that we aren't 100% sure about?

I was tempted to say maybe we can host somewhere ourselves e.g. like maybe where @ruebot has the existing travis files? We would have to advise people to read the license terms in README since it is only free for non-commercial sites.

ruebot commented 7 years ago

I don't think we can redistribute it.

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

Yeah, I agree with Nick. We'll need permission to redistribute it unless the license for it permits.

ruebot commented 7 years ago

I think we have to treat JWPlayer as was it is, you have to go to their site and get it. That's why it doesn't have a drush install script like the other modules that require libraries do, and I don't think it is automatically setup in Islandora Vagrant.

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

Agreed.

Did we want to bother changing this section at all? Maybe:

NOTE: The link to the JWplayer library is no longer available. You must obtain your own copy from JWplayer due to licensing considerations.
DonRichards commented 7 years ago

This is their current hosted URL https://ssl.p.jwpcdn.com/player/download/jwplayer-7.6.0.zip

DonRichards commented 7 years ago

This is their host public url, it isn't hidden behind a login. It just isn't posted anywhere easily seen.

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

Good find. We still should have a note about users having to review the license to make sure they are ok to use the free version. Has anyone tried the most recent version? Seems quite a bit different from the older library.

FYI it is a holiday on PEI tomorrow and will be on vac for a couple days so I might not be able to respond right away.

lutaylor commented 7 years ago

I added the

NOTE: The link to the JWplayer library is no longer available. You must obtain your own copy from JWplayer due to licensing considerations.

bdgregg commented 7 years ago

Adding to this - in the islandora_jwplayer module it says if new system use the Islandora Video.js module.

Closing. Can reopen if group / individual decides to pursue topic.
