Port changed inexplicably ? #148

Hello,

Today I clicked the link to my plainsapp running phone in my firefox bookmarks toolbar.

Got an error that the site was not secure ? There were no option for an override.

I had a look in my phone, plainsapp said there was a problem with the ports being in use.

I pressed the fix button, it said to force restart the app

I restarted the phone

Tried the link again, now there is no answer

Tried to ping my phone, it pings over wifi

Went back in the plainsapp in my phone

Now the port is 8143 ?!

Edited my bookmarks

Firefox complained about the self-signed certification, I accepted it, now it works.

Post mortem

Now, like a good user, I didn't read what it was saying when I pressed the fix button.

I imagine that is what changed the ports.

I'm curious why the ports was used. Surely nothing other than plainsapp would use port 8443 ?

Is there a reason why we can't choose port 443 or 80 as the default port ? I don't have other web apps nor a reverse proxy running on my phone (in fact, I'm not even root on my phone :( )

As for this whole interruption of service, perhaps the fix button should suggest the user to restart their phone, not sure if apps can trigger a system restart.

What I would have liked is instead of "fix" button label, would be two buttons, one labelled "restart the phone" and one "change the port"

Because "fix" sounds like you know what the problem is and you're going to solve and I don't need to worry about it.

However I did need to worry about it, because I needed to know to change the port in my firefox browser bookmark

And explaining to grandmother how to edit a bookmark to change the port over the phone, is quite a task !

(user experience report)

Other than that, I have been using plainsapp for a few weeks now. I was using airdroid before difference I noticed so far are does not copy files as fast (1.5MB/s to 1.8MB/s max, it used to be 10x that) does not have as many features but I don't miss any of them up until now Also, I was quite confused how to "select all" in thumbnail view. I have figured that putting the view to list view shows a select all button, perhaps there is no select all in thumbnail view ? also screen mirroring in landscape has quality problems, see screenshot

99% of the time, what I do with plainsapp, is go to picture, select all picture, download all pictures and erase all pictures after uncompressing all the files into my local pictures folder

OVER ALL I AM VERY HAPPY WITH PLAINSAPP THANK YOU
