Wow. Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel!?! ;-o Yeah, this resonates with me quite a bit, but I clearly haven't suffered as much as the author, yet.

Several things have felt 'wrong' with protobufs to me, and you have laid out the arguments quite clearly. I have always thought the wrongness came from an absolute focus on efficiency 'on the wire', but maybe it's more than that, as you say!

Fully agree with the blind faith that "Google use/created it, so it must be right/the best". Give me a break...
