chore: starting to add some tests to this thing #13

  1. we now dog-food nyc, the fancy-pants new IstanbulJS CLI tool.
  2. I'm going to get us in the habit of writing tests going forwards. (CC: @queicherius, @levity)

tests should pass as soon as I rebase with #10 and #11.
