Review website cookies/analytics/opt-out? #10005

Open evankanderson opened 3 years ago

evankanderson commented 3 years ago

A few people were having a conversation about the "cookie banner" on knative.dev, and we noticed that https://istio.io/ didn't have such a banner. Digging further, it looks like I'm served Google Analytics javascript and reports are collected even in an incognito window with DNT: 1 cookie.

I'm in the US, so maybe this is okay here, but I suspect that our European friends would be surprised by this.

Maybe @davidhauck or @craigbox can comment on this.

We discussed this at the Docs WG meeting yesterday. Evan is right, this is something we need to put on the backlog. We aren't currently staffed for site work, so I'm tagging it "help wanted" and will raise with Steering.

Some notes from the Knative implementation:

craigbox commented 3 years ago

In the Steering meeting, we discussed that we would implement a banner solution similar to Knative's, and @ssuchter nominated @davidhauck to do this.

Do we have a cookie policy somewhere? I believe we need to link to it

craigbox commented 3 years ago

left a suggestion on the PR; if we need to get a policy then we'll have to ask our friends in OSPO.

HI I am new here and want to contribute to this project can you guide me ?

craigbox commented 3 months ago

Hi @Snehaaa18. The first step in engaging with an open source project is normally by reading their CONTRIBUTING file. General guidance on getting started can be found in the CNCF new contributor guidelines.

This particular issue isn't a good place to get started. If you are keen (and not simply motivated by LFX) then please feel free to drop by our Slack.
