It is terribly surprising, when testing your cut-and-pasted automation scripts, to find that validate has the power to change your files by adding execution privs to source files and whatnot. I had to wipe and rebuild because I forgot to change the previous . to the new path I wanted to validate. It seems to me such a feature would be a separate fix command or switch.
