can add, cannot remove restricted item from collection #1390

I ( https://kkairos.itch.io ) was able to add https://fire-phantom.itch.io/distant-dungeon to 2 collections from the page of Metroidvania Month 14 gamejam entries:

https://itch.io/jam/metroidvania-month-14/entries

The collections it's in: https://itch.io/c/2912063/massive-metroidvania-month-mayhem-mmvmm https://itch.io/c/2906331/action-adventure

But because because it was restricted, it isn't showing up in the collections (including a collection I mistakenly added it to which was supposed to be only for games I myself was involved in making) so I'm unable to remove it.

However, it clearly is in the collections. Supporting screenshot attached to show that it is in fact in those collections,

I've reached out to the author to request his permission to see the page so that I can (i hope) remove it from the collections, especially the one it doesn't apply to. I also tried installing a script to allow removal from the add to collection modal, but this doesn't seem to work either.

Please help me remove this game from the collections it's in on my part,. It really doesn't belong in the first one, and depending on the author's wishes (waiting to hear back from them in a discord DM) it might not belong in the MMVMM collection either, and it at least presents as a bug that it can't be removed once added.

Since I was able to add the game to the collection from another page, but am unable to remove it from any page, and my account AFAIK is not restricted in any other way, this falls under a bug report and is not a discussion of any account restriction.

Thank you for your attention. I would appreciate its removal from the action-adventure collection on my profile, and the MMVMM collection as well if possible, and a fix so that it either can be removed from the frontend in the future, or so that restricted games cannot be added from jam submission list pages in the first place.

Furthermore I was unable to post this as a topic under itchio support because the body supposedly needed to be between 1 and several thousand characters. According to google docs, the text of this post, not significantly changed, is 1799 characters. (Apologies for referencing my itchio account not being under restriction above. It isn't, but I wrote that while attempting to post on the forum, where that text was more germane to the discussion, and i'm leaving it in case it's somehow relevant here.

image screenshot without the script on, just in case this matters. image collection that should have 6 items (i'm looking for the 6th so i can remove it, but it's not there, probably because of the restricted page status). again i got this screen w/ the script off just in case it might be muddying the waters.

anything else i can provide to help, let me know

was able to contact the author of the game and remove the item correctly from the 'action-adventure' collection, which decreases the urgency of this for me personally. still seems like kind of a weird user-experience issue that this can happen

I just had this same problem, I added a password-protected game/page/item (IDK what it's called) that I'd entered the password to view to a collection to easily find it later (a new //private// collection I just made called "Bookmarks"). Sure enough, it does not show up in the collections view, in fact it claims the collection is empty! The "Edit collection" and "Edit contributors" buttons don't even work! However, if I go to the page again (which seems to remember the password I entered -- is that for my account or just this browser?), clicking "Add to collection" claims that "This game is already in the following collections: Bookmarks (1 item)"

The page in particular contains download goodies for Kickstarter backers, so I doubt they're going to "un-restrict" it anytime soon

I don't know how easy to fix this is, but I'd suggest

  1. Forbid adding "restricted" or password-protected items to public collections.
  2. Fix (private) collections so they show all their contents.

Not sure what should happen if a previously public game gets restricted/password-protected. (What currently happens if a game gets deleted/removed after being added to a collection?)

Also, make sure there's a clear & specific error message for trying to add "private" games to public collections (unlike the message upon trying to rate a private item: "Your request could not be completed: Something went wrong. Please try again later and contact support if it persists." ^^)
