Sonoff mini dead after flashing tasmota in DIY mode #62

Hi everybody, I successfully installed tasmota wifiman firmware on a sonoff mini. It is fully working on my hass.io hub. Then, I repeated exactly the same procedure on other two sonoff mini and they went brick... no light, nothing happens when I plug them... Any possibility to recover them? Any idea why they stopped working after flashing and the first one did not? Thanks

checcopilo commented 4 years ago

can anyone help me?

erik-ludvig-karlsson commented 4 years ago

I have the same problem... Dead Sonoff Mini..

helio58 commented 4 years ago

Same here flashed with "tasmota-wifiman.bin" after restart could change to the new ssid. Reboot and nothing no flash light when plug no ap . Brick

checcopilo commented 4 years ago

no solution I guess. DYI procedure really sucks

helio58 commented 4 years ago

Got it back. :) Using the Cycle power following this procedure: (6.6.0.18) Unplug the device for several seconds (>30) to ensure that the volatile memory clears, specifically, the real time clock (RTC) memory.

Initiate a power cycling procedure:

Apply power for 1-2 seconds but less than 8 seconds and unplug the device. Wait 1-2 seconds and repeat step i Cycle power four (4) times in this manner

Have anybody same issue and had found a solution ? After flashing via wifi of sonoff mini using tasmota-wifiman.bin file. File has been uploaded successfully, but after restart sonoff is dead... The blue led is not blinking, i cannot find the sonoff wifi hotspot. Initiate a power cycling procedure not helped... Have anybody solution ?

@jmcom289 I have to try several times before it show up.If not then you have to use serial and solder.

Would you know any place where explains how to do it with serial and solder?

Hi. I have tasmota on 15 devices. Mini and basic sonoffs. Only one is not working. I have it installed and working properly for 2 days. Then it was not turning the light on or off. Even pressing the wall switch. It is responding to commands trough mqtt and http. It plays the "clicks" when I send a command, it's showing in my Habpanel like it's working perfect. The led is working too. Everything looks right but it's sending just 12v trough the Line Output (being turned ON or OFF) and the light doesn't turn on or off. Any tip on this issue? Thank's

Have same problem, Sonoff Mini v1.2 fw3.5.0, flashed with tasmota-minimal. Device can be discovered with WiFi (ESP_xxx) and is pingable on 192.168.4.1. But this is all.

Is some solution?

ok first off dont use tasmota-minimal use tasmota-lite with ota flash the only solution i know of is soldering some wires to the vcc gnd and rx / tx

I had the same issue. Flashing minimal bricked the mini r2. But, can recover by soldering to the header pins (which are tiny).

I had better luck with my 2nd mini r2. My OTA sequence was:

Its a bit of a pain doing all of these steps, but worth trying before heating up your soldering iron.

Hope this helps others.

Thank you, You saved me a lot of time ;)

sfc74 commented 2 years ago

for me the problem was the interruption of the circuit between the nozzle and the 1000yf capacitor on the 5v route when I mounted the pvc housing sonoff_mini_r2_desoldering

S474N commented 2 years ago

@sfc74 it must be together? Can you post photo after fix?

sfc74 commented 2 years ago

ok WhatsApp Image 2022-01-08 at 19 28 03

S474N commented 2 years ago

@sfc74 and this is default state from manufacturer (in OK devices)?

sfc74 commented 2 years ago

that route came off for me after I opened the case and closed it again, the capacitor pin pushed the wiring and interrupted it

Hi folks,

I had the same problem flashing the Sonoff Mini R2 with DIY. It actually had a flashing blue light and presented a useless WiFi hotspot that was pingable on 192.168.4.1. Still though, completely useless and needed flashing the old fashioned way with wires. I am really bad at soldering and have bricked a number of devices with my skill free soldering techniques. So when I looked at the contact pads on the Sonoff I decided soldering was fraught with danger for me and more importantly the Sonoff. I thought I'd share my solution as I haven't seen it used elsewhere and it worked first time with no soldering required. You still need the usual CH340 or whatever serial adapter you use and you still need to connect 3.3v, gnd, tx and rx. Pressing the button on the Mini (GPIO 0) on power up will put it into programming mode. The only difference is I raided my partners sewing kit and took 4 needles. I then took 4 female breadboard connector cables and connected one end of each to 3.3v, gnd, tx and rx at my serial adapter end. In the other end I then pushed the blunt end of each needle into each one of the wires giving me a sharp contact point that would actually stick in the small hole in the centre of each contact pad on the Mini board. Voila 4 solderless connections. In practice I had to hold them in place while I flashed the board which was a bit fiddly, but worked equally well on my second 'bricked' mini a few minutes later. As a bonus I could return stolen needles undamaged and unnoticed :) I hope this helps others who are equally challenged with a soldering iron. IMG_0238

I had the same problem too, "apparent brick" after flashing with tasmota-wifiman.bin via OTA in DIY mode. The only thing I would like to add is: don't give up. Sometimes we got tired after hours of fiddling... I didn't see any LED so I tried to reboot a thousand times. In the end, it took a while but the ESSID generated by the not-yet-paired-Tasmota popped up (maybe it was there from the beginning and I just didn't notice).

P.s. the serial adapter made with sewing needles is over the 🔝
