Tried to weigh it on the basic kitchen scales:
got “Err”:
time to bring out the big guns: 💪
The Salter scale says it goes up to 10kg:
pumpkin is 5.34kg:
Which explains why “basic” kitchen scales, that go up to 5kg didn’t like the pumpkin 🎃…
@iteles can I open and chop-up the pumpkin into useful chunks? E.g: cubes that can be frozen and used in a variety of recipes?
Axsked @iteles via Signal:
if I don’t get a reply in the next 10mins I will proactively open the pumpkin and prepare it for freezing so that it can be used in recipes. ⏳
There's no plan for it! As you said, the plan was Halloween last year 😅
Yes, please open it up! I was thinking once it was open we should ask DT to carve it up so as not to waste time.
thanks for confirming the old plan is no longer in effect. 👌
Opened it:
looks good inside. 👌
going to try and roast the seeds.

Never wasting pumpkin seeds again!
These took less than 2mins to prepare then 12 mins to cook (obvs while I was doing other kitchen prep):
@iteles FYI: a couple of the seeds inside the pumpkin were already sprouting:
So I saved 22 of them for planting:
but the roasted ones are delicious:
I will try to save you a couple so you can taste them. 😋
Used some of the pumpkin to make a batch of @carolrmc’s sweetcorn soup: https://github.com/dwyl/health/issues/170
I chopped half the pumpkin into small cubes and put them in 2 large pyrex (IKEA glass) containers in the fridge. ❄️ The other half I left with the skin on. @iteles do you want to axsk DT to peal and chop it today? 💭
The pumpkin has been sitting on the windowsill since before 2️⃣ was born.
we were going to carve it up and make a Jack-o'-lantern Last year, but that plan fell through because we were too busy with a premature baby … 👶
What is the plan for the pumpkin now @iteles ?
