IDE crasesh when opening existing sketch from sketchbook when serial monitor is open #614

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start IDE
2. Open Serial Monitor
3. Try to open another sketch from sketchbook
4. IDE crashes

What version of the Arduino software are you using? On what operating
system?  Which Arduino board are you using?
Slackware64-current x64
Arduino 1.0 beta2

Bug verified on Ubuntu 10.04, Arduino IDE 1.0.1

Current 1.5.4 release does not crash any more
