When I moved to Charlotte in 2008, I had trouble finding any community around the technologies that I practiced or the businesses I liked to serve. As a big believer in the power of connected communities, I began doing what I could to help make those communities prosper. I booked speakers, rented tables, bought food, showed up early to set up, and stayed late to clean up. Here's some of the impact itsbspoke's had on its community:
As organizer, helped Charlotte.rb grow from a dozen members to over 200 before stepping down in 2012
As co-organizer, helped established Charlotte Startup Weekend as a powerful force for connecting the tech and startup communities.
Started a community newsletter, which now shares Charlotte tech and startup community news with over 1000 Charlotteans
Cofounded TechBreakfast CLT, which hosts pitch practice for startups throughout the Carolinas to distinguished panelists and professional investors.
Cofounder of the Code For Charlotte brigade, improving the lives of all Charlotte citizens using technology. Our brigade is the fastest-growing in history and already one of the largest in the world.
Two-time Ignite Charlotte speaker, and long-time sponsor
Sponsored and co-organized BarCamp Charlotte
Sponsored RailsGirls CLT, which helped dozens of women learn how to code.
Community service is at the heart of itsbspoke, and we encourage our employees to participate in the larger community.
