Read about how to fix missing icons in Ubuntu applications launcher with great interest, and learned about the StartupWMClass property. Unfortunately, it did not apply to my issue. In Debian 12, GNOME-software has a "featured applications" animated carousel, which for months have been displaying a large generic icon (looks like a page with the bottom right corner folded up, with an exclamation point (!) within a triangle, and it is fuzzy, out-of-focus. This icon displays for all the apps featured. For at least 6 months.
Killing the process, then deleting the GNOME-software cache, and reloading does not fix the behavior. I also have installed apt-config-icons-large and apt-config-icons-large-hidpi. I can not locate any user posting for this, but I believe this is a wide-spread user issue. But, as it is a purely cosmetic issue, I don't think it has a high priority in the minds of the maintainers. There may be a mis-configuration in the GNOME-software server, or the developers are not submitting their applications with the proper data to display their icons properly in the carousel animation window.
I wonder if, with your troubleshooting skills and talent, you might be able to throw some light on this issue. A manual workaround would be appreciated, but even better, if you'd inform the proper team maintaining GNOME-software of a solution, that would resolve the issue at its root. The maintainers seem to be communicating between themselves, and are not in touch with their users.
I know you're busy. This is just a user suggestion, if you can find the time. Any information in It'sFOSS would be much appreciated. Thank you for your helpful newsletters.
BTW, I'm sorry to say that in most of the It'sFOSS videos, I can't understand the speakers for their Hindi accent. In my job (in Tennessee) I have many Indian immigrant customers, but, having integrated with local residents, their accent is much moderated and understandable. (I much prefer printed text over video presentations, anyway.)
