Core documentation with and without gdal (old and new) #263

We have to make some documentation about this issue as long as we are using both solution in the core in parallel. I suggest:

[ ] General doc about the issue of both datastream versions
[ ] Include old basic module docu
[ ] Include all other descriptions of existing modules implemented on base of the core without gdal
[ ] Clarify if its necessary for the user to know something about GDAL -> i just would it call "old" and "new" for example

It probably depends if we want to support both data streams for the future or if what is needed gets converted to GDAL and stop supporting the old core. Have you made a decision on this yet?

If we don't want to support both systems for longer I personally wouldn't go through the effort of documenting it.
