Thank you for reporting this. This is indeed a problem and you're not the first one to report it.
The problems that have to be solved:
honnestly i was really looking into this same stuff,
investigating running the software on a private server (benhind a vpn) so that all invited users can use a privacy-friendlier, and less intrussive youtube experience but the ONE thing lacking thus far seems to me the commenting section.
yes you could (maybe even should) display replies from youtube users or even redit users. but what about locals what if you host thing for about 100 friends and families. or better yet what if you want to be really social and do some fediverse kind of thing... i would verry wel apreciate more social functions somewhere in the line of.
adding at least one more reply platform that maybe supports both local (on server only) and global (federated) imput under video's. maybe even in hte form of...
youtube replies < read only : don't require user login to google but your replies will not be seen by other youtubers> youtube replies < read + write> : you will have to login to youtube and add some dificult yadayadah so invious can behave like a regular YT-client and you can read and reply to other youtubers.
same for redit i guess.
but what you would see as verry beneficial to be added would be a 3rd commenting platform based on whatever works.. where you can just reply to the video as you would and anyone on the same server could read and reply... or the server owner could enable federation and ALL users on all instances who chose to enable this backend can read you too.
wheather that be in some form of built-in matrix chat or something more like commento ... i dunno it would just be cool to have something outside the scope of google and the sorts.
@im-ichat you are reacting on the wrong issue. These are the correct issues related to your problem:
Hello!
Couldn't find any info on what kind of account should I choose to be able to add comments and if that possibility is present at all. Tried to log in with G-account using app password but it failed. And I have strong habit not to put initial G-pass outside of their products.
Would be very helpful to have a page on accounts in wiki. Could people who already use it write one?
