forward emails to brimir #248

I'm not sure how brimir gets email. is there a forwarding address? I have my email server separate. how can I get it to work?

my email server is on mail.domain.com and brimir is on support.domain.com

Is it a Linux mail server? You just have to install curl on the mail server and copy the script from your brimir repo in scripts/post-mail to the mail server. You can then follow these steps on the mail server: https://github.com/ivaldi/brimir#incoming-email

I had done that but still no tickets being created. I have run newaliases afterwards.

my aliases file:

postmaster:    root

my Brimir installation is on support.camva.ir and the support email is support@camva.ir

our mailing server is hosted on mail.camva.ir which is where I put the alias.

output of ls -l /etc/mail/alias* /usr/lib/sendmail

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Feb  5  2015 /usr/lib/sendmail -> ../sbin/sendmail

PS: I'm using Mail-in-a-box

What does your mail log report for mails to support@?

I successfully got the email on the inbox. for some reason, alias either not honored or Brimir is not catching it.

You need some special setup to make a mailbox also be an alias. I believe the simplest manner is to remove the lines from /etc/aliases and create a .forward file in the mailbox directory with the right contents, but I have no experience with that.

it turns out, Mail-in-a-box does not support piping emails. and you don't support IMAP fetch or any other method. I'm stuck :disappointed: :sos:

Is there a way to use Sieve instead? you can directly write pipe script in it http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Pigeonhole/Sieve/Plugins/Pipe

Mail-in-a-box should support sieve than, the Brimir end doesn't need any changes as long as something can run the post-mail script.

I don't know mail-in-a-box, but i had a similar issue with Dovecot ignoring /etc/aliases (of course, as it doesn't know about it) and then bouncing my mails because it didn't know the recipient address.

The solution was to forward "support@mydomain.com" to "support@localhost.localdomain", and because my Postfix has listed "localhost.localdomain" in its "mydestination" parameter, those mails don't get passed to Dovecot but are handled by Postfix locally - which means it uses /etc/aliases and posts the message to the Brimir script.
