I can confirm this, but unfortunately the HTC Desire only has a green and
orange LED.
Furthermore, the latter is only used when the battery is low or the device is
charging. Don't think there will be a fix for this.

I assumed that, too.
But even when there is no fix for this, perhaps the code could check for the
type of the mobile phone and then
only display the available colors?

ah.k. so it's a hardware thing.
working fine on my g1. the n1 does not have any color either.. (foo google)
but i won't check for phone type, as there are ~50 different android phones out
there..

You can try Handcent with color LED. so fat I get cyan and red color on my
desire.

A friend told me the same thing just recently.
I was wondering why his LED was blinking pink... He uses handcent, too.
So, from the hardware side it should be possible (I saw it on the same model as
mine, the Desire with 2.2 and the Samsung AMOLED display).

Confirmed that Handcent displays Blue, Light blue, pink, in addition to green
and amber.

Shouldn't this issue be reopened again since it isn't a hardware thing as
assumed before?

please get me the exact color codes for the working colors.
the "LED Color Tester" should help.

There is an application called "LED me know" you can used instead. Just disable
all the notifications in SMSdroid and the standard SMS app, and configure the
SMS notification in LED me know. It has a special Desire compatibility mode and
has blue, magenta, cyan and other colors available.
Works fine on my Desire (not HD!) w/ Froyo...

OK, will try "LED me know", because "LED Color Tester" is not able to produce
any other colors than green and orange, too. :(

I'm using an HTC Hero, and don't get ANY LED notifications. I haven't yet tried
all the colors; are we talking about the light behind the scroll ball that
blinks white for all other notifications? Or the LED at the side of the top
speaker that shines green or orange as a power indication?

this differs from phone to phone.
on n1 the ball is multicolor.
on g1 the ball has no color, but the led besides the speaker is multicolor.
on g2 only the dpad is white and the led seems to be green only.
that's what i can say about my phones here.

OK, I can't reproduce the color codes that LED me know is using. But since they
are using a "compatibility mode", obviously something has to be different about
the Desire. I just did a quick google search, but I couldn't find any sources
of LED me know. Perhaps someone could contact the author of the software to
find out what is so special about the LED of the Desire?
