since we now have replies, I wonder if it is possible for ferris bot (and maybe other bots) to post their output as a reply instead of a normal message

On second thought, I don't know any Discord bot that does this, and users seem to have gotten by fine without this. So, perhaps this is a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
