As of Django 1.10 middleware classes should be loaded differently, into the MIDDLWARE setting instead of MIDDLWARE_CLASSES: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.11/topics/http/middleware/

To update behaviour for the Django 1.11 LTS target we will need to tweak how the settings are populated, and also check all the middleware used by this project to ensure it is compatible with the lower-level changes: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.11/topics/http/middleware/#upgrading-middleware
