VPN support #14

Hi Ivo,

congratulation to this genius piece of work. It worked from the start. The simplicity of the handling is very convincing. Having done my successful tests in the LAN, I was becoming a little bit more adventurous and tried to connect a device with a VPN connection. The devices did not find each other. Can I do something to make the connection possible or did you prevent this for reasons?

Best wishes Thomas

Hey @thonie3,

For the phones to find each other, they need to be on the same router. This is the case when both phones are connected to the same WiFi network. So, if you have one phone at home, and the other in a WiFi network at McDonald's, for example, they are not on the same router. When using a VPN, the phones are still not on the same router.

There are some VPNs that run on a router, but I have not experimented with that. For instance, if you set up your home VPN on your home router, it might be possible for the phones to find each other, but I still think this will not work. You can experiment and let us know.

Hi Ivo,

I'm afraid your are right. The device is connected with WireGuard to my FritzBox. Both devices have an IP address in the same subnet and the FritzBox is the DNS-Server. Theoretically both devices should be able to see each other, but no connection is made.

Best wishes Thomas
