Thanks for opening a pull request, @314eter :bow:

To keep things clean and easy to review -- can you please split this up into two pull request, one for each issue being fixed? :pray:

Also, as far as I can tell, this doesn't fix the deserialization problem on the latest master version of Atom. I'm not sure why that is, I just added a comment here to see what's going on with deserialization in general.

I created PR #121 for the first issue. The second part depends on the first, so maybe it's better to wait?
