I could be wrong, but doesn't this seem to replace the edit text entirely, making random text always on instead of an option?

Yep, this should be reverted.

Yes, Someone needs to update the UI, I just added the functionality for my own usage

I understand, and it's not your fault that it got merged. But for future reference, I think you should probably make PRs like this draft PRs in the future if they cause breakage in some way / are incomplete, and also be more explicit about what the breakage is. Because at first glace, "UI needs to be updated" is a bit vague.
