Windows 8 problems #48

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Ensuring Driver Signature Enforcement Disabled via the following commands
bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
2. Running the chatpad_installer_amd64.exe (even from an admin command prompt)
3. Clicking Ok on the Chatpad Installer Message that says "Preparing to install
the chatpad driver. WARNING: Make sure the controller is plugged in before
clicking OK!"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is for the driver to install and be ready to run, instead I
get the following error message in a Chatpad Installer Window: "Failed to
update chatpad filter device driver: 0xe000022f" followed by another Chatpad
Installer Message "The chatpad installer has finished running."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The windows 7 package zip from the wiki link. On windows 8. I tried right
clicking and running the drivers in compatibility mode but got no improvement
in behavior.

Please provide any additional information below.
When attempting to run the control utility (even from admin cmd prompt) I get
errors and nothing works.

I have the same issue, but apparently in order to get a response, you must
write gtschemer@gmail.com on the "owner" field.

I don't see where that option is, could you let me know if you see it for new
or existing issues and I'll be glad to create it.

I also dropped a comment in to the issue that mentions adding the owner to
issues as well in case that'll help the owner be in the loop.

I saw that response about issues but unfortunately I'm not sure if users can
change the owner of issues. I don't use Google code very much. :P

Also, I do not have Windows 8, and I do not have much of an idea about what
might happen with trying to use Windows 7 drivers as-is on Windows 8. I
suppose I would at minimum expect .ini and/or installer modifications to be
required.

Ah, well if you want me to try anything from my end with respect to
compatibility modes or anything like that I'd be glad to QA for you. I'm not a
programmer or a sysadmin but I know my way around the error logs and backend of
a windows OS better than the average bear.

I could never get it to run using the commands you posted. It installed but the
controller would not be detected.

I got it running on Win 8 64bit by disabling Signature Enforcement via the
built in menu and installing it normally. The problem is I have to disable it
every time I reboot.

During the installation I got a message saying the operation ran fine AND I
also got 3 errors saying the drivers couldn't be installed but it still ran
fine when I launched the control app.

I'm researching ways to sign the drivers at least for my own PC only but I've
never dealt with drivers before so I have no idea what I'm doing. (currently
reading this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd919238(v=ws.10).aspx)

Anyway I hope this helps.

Well, I was able to install it following your instructions.

The problem is, my chatpad doesn't seem to write anything, I mean, the lights
turn on, the controller is recognized, I run the app and I get the readings n
all but it just doesn't type at all.

There are 3 things in the readings I get that caught my eye

IOCTL failed, last error == 31
IOCTL failed, last error == 31
IOCTL failed, last error == 31

am I doing something wrong?

Anyone ever get anywhere with this running on Windows 8? Does it work fine on
Windows 7 at least? I guess I need to dual boot for this.

I have it running all OK on Win 8 64 bit. I was able to install and use the
chatpad by disabling the signature encryption manually. The I found out about
this app (http://www.ngohq.com/?page=dseo) to disable it permanently (this a is
big security problem BTW, but the pc i'm using is not always connected to the
net, so do it at your own risk).

If the controller doesn't work try using different usb ports.
