Cannot embed Noto Sans CJK fonts into Microsoft PowerPoint #229

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a blank slide in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2013, type anything,
then set the font to Noto Sans CJK SC Light (or any other Noto Sans CJK font)
2. Set the option to "embed fonts into file" - "embed the characters used in
this presentation only".
3. Press SAVE.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The fonts should be embedded successfully. But the program gives the error
"Some of your fonts cannot be saved with your presentation: <font name> Reason:
general failure".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Font: OTF format, either original version or v1.001
Office: Microsoft Office 2013
OS: Windows 8.1

Please provide any additional information below.
(1) If I chose to embed ALL characters, it worked well but the file size was
too large. The error only appears when I choose to embed the characters I use
within the slides.
(2) The font Noto Sans and Noto Serif are OK. The problem only occurs with Noto
Sans CJK series.
(3) Other Chinese fonts I have work well and can be embedded.

Thank you :-)

Do other CFF-flavored OpenType fonts work, or were all the fonts you try
TrueType?

This is most probably an MS Office limitation.

Adobe's testing suggests that this PowerPoint embedding feature works only with
TrueType fonts. Microsoft even has information about this limitation. See:
