initially it'd be nice to modify some display preferences, start a new chat, maybe apply an alias to a socket id, stuff that'd muddy up the UI but make it nicer to use For Real
it should be able to do anything hotkeys can do (so the functions should be reusable by the command bar or the hotkey system)
