2023 Exploratory Idea: Can we detect aurora around an exoplanet? #5

Open colliand opened 10 months ago

@colliand attempting to translate some of the discussion on 2023-11-02.

  1. Use available models to quantity expected aurora signals across the exoplanet census
  2. Determine whether expected aurora signals can be seen with existing instruments

How does a student explore available models in EMAC to approach this problem?

colliand commented 10 months ago

JUNO discovered aurora on Jupiter. Can we look at the way that aurora was sensed and use it as an example to scale up an estimate (distance, brightness) on possible detection of exoplanet aurora?

colliand commented 10 months ago

Literature search. Have others detected exoplanet aurora?
