Not sure what to do about forked .gitmodules for pull requests like this. This is really a "cherry-pick 'Set driver port order metadata' request".

After some further use, I can see this leads to crashes sometimes.

I am not sure how to correctly distinguish the case of normal client and driver "client" (which needs to just set the metadata, not send a notification).

I manually applied most of these commits. Documentation on options has been removed from jackd's usage() function, and a reference to the man page is now given.
