this always has been a mistery to me, the manual is lacking... No $ man vlc-plugin-jack outdated: https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Modules/jack/ near useless: $ vlc --help-verbose --advanced --module jack
Simple Method for 5.1_Downmix from VLC or XINE using Jack with: Kubuntu 20.10 QjackCtl jackd2 Jack Mixer v17.0 VLC or XINE
VLC Control+P "Preferences" Advanced / Show All Audio Output Modules JACK
Client Connect jackmixer:in
Jack Client Name: "Optional" VLC
QjackCtl PulseAudio driver, 48Khz AC3, DTS, DVD are 48KHz
Jack Mixer v17.0 https://github.com/jack-mixer/jack_mixer/wiki/Installing-on-debian---Ubuntu or Non Mixer https://non.tuxfamily.org/wiki/BinaryPackagesAndBuilds optional: jkmeter
Mono Input channel Names: in_1 in_2 in_3 in_4 in_5 in_6
Stereo Output Channel: LR
5.1 DTS, AC3 or Stereo Audio file--> VLC--> vlc-plugin-jack--> Jack Mixer--> QjackCtl---> PulseAudio--> Sound card/interface.
Will Auto-connect all channels from VLC sequentially to Jack Mixer input channels.
JackMixer v17 "v13 does Not work" in_1&2 are Front L&R in_3&4 are Rear L&R in_5 Center in_6 "5.1" Subwoofer / Subbass usually 20Hz HPF, 80Hz LPF. DONE.
Nothing else worked... IF there is another way, let me know, vlc-plugin-jack manual is useless.

most of those settings connect to QjackCtl system_1 directly, Not Jack Mixer v17
