Unable to delete message thread if sender has special characters (like #)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Receive a message from a sender with special characters in the name (like 
the #)
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I would expect the thread to be deleted, instead, nothing happens.

What version of the product are you using? On what device / operating
system?

Latest stable. Nexus 5, a recent OmniROM 4.4.4
