Dollar symbol recognised as digit 8 if struck through

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan numerics prefix with dollar symbol.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected $ - saw 8.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Win XPP SP2 FreeOCR v2.3 Feb08

Please provide any additional information below.
NB the scanned font shows the dollar symbol completely struck through (see
Tahoma font) rather than simply tagged above and below (as per Courier New).

Attached .bmp shows a complex series of cases.
