On going to Map tab, no map just a system error message about a generic GDI+ error. #20

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Is a new installation on Windows Vista machine. WINGUI for 2.0 works
perfectly on this machine.
2. Just look through tabs
3. Opened "Map" tab... serious error message (see below) but application
carried on running.

What is the expected output? ==> Worked beautifully on XP machine. Very cool.
Expected to see nice maps.

What do you see instead? ==> Error message, something about generic GDI+ error.
Red cross across graphics part of screen. Error message contents follow.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0.4579.34500 . Vista Home Premium -- latest updates.

Please provide any additional information below.

Tried reinstalling windows software mentioned in GoogleCode. Did repairs but
not necessary to reinstall .Net 2.0 (part of op system if I remember the
message). Thanks.

Should add: I did move the directory from being in the root c:\ to a new
directory c:\p\ (kept it short). Deleted and reinstalled to c:\p\ -- same
behaviour. Even deleted and reinstalled to root c:\ -- no improvement.

Does not appear to be anything due to having moved the directory. Seems to be a
bug when using with Vista Home Premium.

Seems really to be a problem with the Vista Home Premium installation.
Installed and worked perfectly on another XP machine.

Hi Radioman,

When you say "update gmap.net" what do I do? Do you mean I should install
the latest software from http://greatmaps.codeplex.com/ to correct a bug
that occurs in Vista but has been corrected in the latest version of the
code gmap.net code in the "greatmaps".

Thanks. Hope this is not a stupid question.

Problem was VISTA
For other reasons, I upgraded the computer in question to Windows 7 from Vista
Home Premium (horrid).
MultiWii WinGUI 2.1 works perfectly now. (Just had to install the .NET 4
framework again.)No map problem anymore.

Hi Chukkot,

I tried many things. Looked everywhere I could on the web. I received a few
useful ideas but nothing worked.

For other reasons I installed Win7. Then WinGUI worked perfectly. (Also my
machine was transformed to a pleasant fast pleasure.)

I have to state that Mw WinGui is NOT compatibile with Vista. The recommended
solution is to get an upgrade (which is a good idea anyway) to Win7 or Win8. I
really don't want to waste time to find out why is it working on Xp/Win7/Win8
and why not working on Vista.

Dear eosbandi,
I agree totally, my only regret is not upgrading to Win7 earlier. However, a
few of us wasted time trying to get it to work with the horrid Vista. Please
mention this Vista incompatibility in a place that is obvious. I guess this
incompatibility will apply to version 2.2 (can't wait) too.
Otherwise, this is a FANTASTIC piece of work. Bravo and best of luck.
Inspirational!
