Theoretical approach:

Building as root (or close-to-root) container node
Building > Elevators: fixed subscenes which allow triggering transitions of...
Building > Floors: subscenes containing areas, NPCs, objects, which can be swapped in and out

Scene tree is starting to develop some cruft at the root - need to get my global references in one place (the Game autoload, generally) and determine whether main.gd (or the "bldg" level) is redundant.
