current interface of returning exception feels awkward.

OTOH, is R(K)0; any better? Thanks to type checking, a "null" frame will not blow up subsequent calls and will fail with 'type but that's some distance away from the empty frame cause.

revisit the issue of making qzmq api look more q-like after 1.2.0 (more likely a 2.0 issue)
