Random Allotment #8

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
In our system we are eliminating Random TAship allotment to the TAs who do not
fill in their preferences/TAship form on time However in the current system
such TAs are randomly assigned TAship of any course.

Random allotment should still be done in our system because:
1.TAs are limited and decided beforehand and thus if any of them does not fill
in his/her preferences on time, the only solution to it is Random allotment of
any course.

2.TAs are being given time duration to fill in their preferences and nothing
can be done to satisfy choice/preferences of TAs who still do not adhere to
this time limit- actually increases complexity of an np-Hard problem.

We need to either incorporate some feature in our system for not doing Random
Allotment or otherwise stick to this rule of the current system.

I absolutely agree with you. But didn't Sureka sir mention that there should
not be any random allotment in any case! I think we should discuss this with
Sir and can ask for his inputs regarding this.

@aditi, Akanksha : The Issue with random allotment is that we aren't allotting
the TAs.
The Instructors select the TAs from the list of those TAs who've given their
preferences. If some TA doesn't fill his/her choice, where do you suggest we
display his/her name. Or do you suggest that the particular TA doesn't show up
in any list and is assigned a course when there is a deficit?

That's something to think about. Perhaps, we can show a list to the admin
containing a list of all those teaching assistants who haven't given their
preferences and ask her to mail them separately.

As suggested by Sir,we are not responsible for allocation of those TAs who have
not filled forms before the deadline. Thus, this is not an issue now.
