check up on transitive follows fix for nixpkgs #3

followup to https://github.com/jali-clarke/dev-env/issues/2 - the consolidated refs thing was deployed but the underlying issue is still there. would be good to get that resolved somehow, probably would just have to wait until the issue linked within the linked issue above is resolved
