I wonder if this project extends the windows property system to handle the 
video formats herein? E.g. supplying simple things like length/duration for 
windows explorer?

if not, are there plans for such a feature?

This is out of scope for LAV, since its entirely unrelated to the actual 
DirectShow components.

Icaros provides thumbnails and properties in Explorer for formats such as .mkv
