Pretty sure to do this you need to support Facebook open graph

Issues has been closed. All that was required was to add the jekyll-seo-tag plugin to the websites config, and add the correct fields to the yml front matter. The plugin automatically adds the SEO tags for supporting FB open graph (and thus apple link previews). Worked very well, I'm impressed.
