Was this a one time issue or is it never possible to copy text into the class?
I cannot reproduce it. It works for me in Eclipse 3.7

I cannot even copy and paste within the properties window.
Version: Juno Service Release 1
Build id: 20120920-0800

Addenum to my earlier comment:
After played around a while and among other things drag n dropped a text in the
properties window, paste started to working.

Perhaps you have selected the element, but not the properties textbox.
In that case you will still see the current line highlighted (but no caret).
You cannot write, because your actions will be applied to the element and not
to its text (eg: pressing the arrow buttons will move the element and not the
cursor)
Otherwise I cannot reproduce the problem
