[information] no vehicles available anymore for purchase in game started in 2000. Only two tram types that I purchased in the beginning are available. #604

I have installed simutrans-extended compiled from git commit 5d8023242 with pak128.britain-ex nightly.

I recently started a game in year 2000, and I wanted not to worry about money. I forgot to check freeplay mode, then I played (building some tram, and then heavily terraforming and building railway tracks) until it said that the next action would bring me into more debt than allowed, then I enabled freeplay mode and could continue (and increase my debt heavily).

When I wanted to buy buses or trolleybuses or trains, I could not find any available for purchase in the depot. Only in the train depot (I have build the universal one for all traction types) I could find one single steam locomotive tender.

Regarding trams, in the beginning I had many types available to purchase, later I had only those two types available for purchase that were already running on my network.

Sadly I cannot (easily) reproduce since I forgot to save the game and autosave for some reason did not occur (maybe I have switched it off). So I tag this "information" only, not as a bug, because I do not know if there is something wrong with the game, or if I have made something wrong.

If you are getting steam locomotives in 2000, there is something not right with your pakset. May I suggest testing with the nightly binary?

Also, in 2000, trolleybuses are no longer available (as in reality); for trams and electric trains, make sure that the depot has the appropriate type of electrification, or else it will not let you build electric vehicles (and, by 2000, most train and all tram options are electric).

FWIW... it was still possible to buy trolleybuses in 2000, even though they weren't manufactured in Britain. It's an international market. Seattle (in the US) bought trolleybuses from AM General in the US in 1979, from MAN in Germany in 1967, dual-modes from Breda (Italy) in 1990, a completely wild upgrade where they bought buses without power from Gillig and transplanted the AM General motors to them in 2001-2003, and trolleybuses from New Flyer in Canada in 2013.

I like the idea of giving people the option of taking a different historical path. If someone had wanted to set up or maintain a trolleybus system in a city in Britain after the historical date when they ended (1972, Bradford), they'd probably have looked in the same places as Seattle did (there weren't a lot of trolleybus manufacturers in the Western bloc for 50 years, though more became available when the USSR fell). And they would not have been cheap. I'm not able to do art, but it would be a fun thing to add just a few import and upgrade trolleybus models for people who want to keep their trolleybus networks running...

Similarly, trams are pretty much all imported in the modern day.

Just a thought. In general, for the modern era where rolling stock is routinely transported internationally, it might make sense to introduce a few vehicles which were sold internationally which were offered to Britain but didn't happen to actually win contracts. (Skoda's trams, sold worldwide since the end of the USSR in 1991, are another example. I don't think any of them are in the UK but that's just accidental, they could have been, they submitted bids repeatdly and just didn't win out.)
