An email from Ian Walmsley that just went around:

From: Professor Ian Walmsley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation)

Professor Alison Woollard appointed Academic Champion for Public Engagement with Research

I am very pleased to advise that Professor Alison Woollard, Department of Biochemistry and Fellow of Hertford College, has agreed to serve as the University’s Academic Champion for Public Engagement with Research, following Professor Sarah Whatmore’s departure from this role on her appointment as the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education).

Alison will provide academic leadership for the implementation of the University’s Public Engagement with Research strategic plan that was approved by the University’s Research Committee in May 2016.

The appointment will support Oxford’s commitments to both the Manifesto for Public Engagement, to which the University is a signatory, and the RCUK Concordat for Engaging the Public with Research. Alison will also play a key role in the project grant awarded to Oxford by RCUK under its Public Engagement with Research Catalyst Seed Fund (CSF).

Alison will work with me as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for public engagement and through a network of academic ambassadors, supported by Dr Lesley Paterson, Senior Facilitator and Coordinator, Public Engagement with Research, Research Services.

I look forward to working with Alison on this important aspect of University activity.

Regards

Ian A. Walmsley FRS Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics PVC (Research and Innovation)
