I have emailed some random Chinese cable manufacturers to see if we can get these made for us, to save hassle.
Now we're using a laser-cut acrylic case there's no need to have round connectors. Flat ribbon cables (or CAT5-type ethernet cables) would be better. Need to investigate possible components.
We can give each groubit two 3.5mm stereo audio jacks. These are cheap (15p each) and attach easily through a hole we can drill in the side of the box:

For the cables however we need something a bit special - we need them to exchange the left and right channels! This is necessary to ensure we're connecting output pins with input pins. So we will have to wire them ourselves. Luckily this is pretty cheap. Cable is 29p per meter:

We might have to use 2 more very short cables inside the box to connect the audio sockets to the circuit board.
