We are starting to accumulate a fair number of these. For example, see #250 .

This suggests that:

We certainly need to document the pattern so it is implemented consistently, and understood
We may wish to implement some infrastructure in the code to assist with the class construction to keep it DRY?
We may wish to analyze both the pattern and review our code for where this pattern can and should be employed?
