I did some testing with Michael's images recently using the APK files from a
friends
G1 and found that it appears that Calendar depends on the non-free Google Apps,
SetupWizard, etc to be in place as it is trying to run those to be able to talk
to
the Google web services.

I did get it to run the SetupWizard but that wouldn't connect via a working Wifi
link, it seemed to want GPRS/3G. :-(

I have been thinking of taking the API for the SetupWizard and just say to the
calender "no contact" or something to that meaning and I would guess that should
force it to use a local cache? Or can't you use the android calendar i e.g.
airplanemode?

Have anyone found the api for the SetupWizard and know anything about the
possiblity
to do this?

ozchris: it doesnt, after getting all of google stuff from htc image i didnt
have any
problem to use wifi with setupwizard / initial sync (including calendar) and
calendar
works ok afterwards

torindel: if you remove the google stuff after setup and initial sync does the
calendar continue to work or does it behave the same as before?

Interesting, I really should try to get that to work it should be possible with
the
same approach as with google maps api.

I applied a patch Michael Trimarchi supplied and the app now runs. It does not
sync
with Google Calendar.

jim, why can't we sync to google? do you know?

I believe accessing Google requires closed source Android components that would
require reverse engineering.

So possible at some point, just not at present.
