Unable to sync calendar with Google Apps with Cupcake weekly build 46

I think calendar sync with Google Apps will never be available, as the
corresponding
API and libraries are not open source.

There is a feature request filed with Google Android on iCal / CalDav in the
calendar:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2361
but I also doubt it will be released as open source.

Your only hope is in third party applications, such as
http://andappstore.com/AndroidApplications/apps/Exchange_by_TouchDown
(I haven't checked whether it works for FreeRunner).

If someone finds other calendaring application with synchronization
capabilities,
please post a comment here.

One thing that could be possible is to reimplement the api and libraries for
some
other network calendar service. So we can use the android calander app and all
other
that uses the same api.

For the time being this is blocked on 80, Google api not available. There may be
other possibilities but they are far off I think.

Installing the google apps taken from another images works [1], I can sync the
Calendar, the emails, google talk, browse the market (and 'once' I also was
able to
install an app), but I had no luck with the contacts :/ (I can only in the
emulator).

However this is far from being "free" (as speech), but it's anyway android. So
now i
figure that it's better if we focus on the hardware support more than on
getting a
completely free platform.

Well as we can't redistribute any of the google apps. There is other people
that have
done this and google started threating them. So if user do that we can't stop
them
but in no way shape or form can we add those to our images.

No, no... Of course you can't. It's just a consideration from an user point of
view.
