Is this project alive? #109

Open SamMousa opened 6 years ago

SamMousa commented 6 years ago

Seeing as there have been no commits for about 9 months, no replies to issues or PRs, should we conclude this project is dead?

@janeczku should we consider looking for an alternative / forking this library? Or do you expect to become active again and is this just a temporary period of inactivity?

--> note that I do not think you're obligated in anyway to spend time on projects you release to the public, but if you let us know you won't then at least we can decide how to move forward :)

Thanks for the project, I use it a lot!

Do you see an ongoing need that isn't met?

SamMousa commented 6 years ago

I see lots of open issues and PRs without response

Azure for one

Documentation says: "This application is distributed via the Rancher Community Catalog. Enable the Community Catalog under Admin => Settings in the Rancher UI. Then locate the Let's Encrypt template in the Catalog section of the UI and follow the instructions."

But I am not able to find its template under the Catalog.

So the question is very valid: Is this project alive?

P.S. I am on Rancher v1.6.x

SamMousa commented 6 years ago

It is in there @diegodurante, try looking for encrypt and you should see it.

diegodurante commented 6 years ago

Thanks for your answer @SamMousa but I still can't find it!

Below you can see that Community Catalog is enabled but the template of Let's Encrypt is not present under template lists. Am I missing something? 🤔

rancher 1

SamMousa commented 6 years ago

Ah, you're using Kubernetes; there's no template for kubernetes in the Rancher Community Catalog. You could contribute one; but I can't help you with that.

diegodurante commented 6 years ago

ah okay, understood. Thanks anyway!

@janeczku Do you wanna maintain this project or is dead anyway? There are thousands users of Rancher 1.6 and still will be and many of them still use this great software. But we should tell, it is little outdated and many great PRs are waiting to make it better.

If you don't have any time to maintain it anymore then please write about it. I think you should find any responsible person who can let this project alive.

I'm pretty sure it is completely dead.

Stuff like #93 and the PR with it are just being ignored.

Time to fork I guess

Azerothian commented 5 years ago

the most updated fork seems to be https://github.com/optanix/rancher-letsencrypt atm fyi
