Hey @atornity, this is caused when you press CTRL + W. This is an intentional feature called a slice. If you go into preferences > Misc Settings > Slicing you can change the axis that the slice is created or the position of the slices cut.

This is really useful for seeing the center of a vector field on a particular axis if there is a lot going on within a particular field.
