Maybe I can get existing git/SCM configuration stuff from SFL4J's source repo. It has a complicated enough structure that might be useful.

Nah, don't bother: I took a look at the contents of their git repo, and it's the same as what's in the dist tarball, aside from generated target/ and site/ stuff.
